on the bookshelf.

Outliers is my current summer reading. So far, it's been very, very interesting. In a good way. It's all about people who have defied the odds or stood out during a period of history, and the reasons why. Anyway, I'm enjoying it and find it blog worthy.

on the backburner.

Just some fun things I spotted on Simply Grove today while blog hopping. Add them to my list of "must attempt". More furniture makeovers, chair recovering, and fun pillows.

finally!

Here it is! My first mini-makeover. You remember the before...

And here's after! I love how bright and fun the colour is. It matches the duvet cover I made perfectly! And for $15 plus paint, you can't go wrong. I also picked up the lamp at Ikea, but I'm not sure I love the way it looks on top. Oh well, it's cute and functional. (And I'd probably like it more if the wall wasn't white behind it...isn't that how it is though? One project leads to another...) I lined the bottom of the night stand with a piece of wrapping paper from Write Impressions (Uptown Waterloo) - love that place! I still have leftovers, so I'll line the drawer with it too.

CUTE.

Oh my...I love this little wedding. The decor is so lovely and unexpected. I decided I love the unexpected in design...just a thought. Unexpected is a good word.

more headboards.

Hello followers! So sorry for the lack of posts this past week - exam week for me = no time for fun. But I'm back! Hard at work on some fun projects, which I'll show you later. But for now, more headboard ideas.

watercolour.

I love this new trend - the watercolour print. Especially the Elie Saab dress Rachel McAdams wore to the Oscars (see my post on March 25). Besides that, here are a few other pieces I like...

fireplaces without fire.

I just recently stumbled upon this interesting article in Real Simple - a magazine about home and food and fashion. The photos show ideas for how to fill an empty fireplace hearth, when it's not in use for the warmer seasons. They fill it with plants, unique vases, a mirror, birch wood, and a ball of lights. Gone are the days when you only displays pretty things on the mantel of your fireplace, I suppose? I'm okay with that...

makeover.

I bought this little beauty for at a local thrift store (I now have them staked out across town...) Can't wait to paint it! I haven't picked a colour yet, but I'm planning on it being a statement piece. Stay tuned!

tea party.

I want to have one.

With personalized tea bags. With interesting and unique details.

With tiny cute appetizers.

And with a beautiful, elaborate centrepiece.

Someday.

as promised.

Here it is! My homemade duvet cover. I absolutely love it - the colours, the design, everything. The pattern is from Mood, the solid blue is from Len's Mill, and the grey underneath is none other than a $4.99 Value Village special. I wanted to use as much of the pattern as I could, but I didn't have enough to cover the entire duvet, so I framed the ends with the solid blue. I also dressed my bed with my new $10 sheets from Target...can't wait to crawl in tonight!

Bonus: new $4 curtains with cute yellow material from the clearance shelf at Len's Mill. Perfect Match.
