mmm, flowers.

Not just any flowers, fabric flowers. Thanks for the idea, Dolci Odille.

My Mom.

Today I'm posting about someone truly blog-worthy. Not because of her fashion sense, her home decoration ideas, or her great recipes. This isn't a photo I found on someone else's blog, or a great person I read about in a magazine. This is real life - this is true inspiration. Today I'm remembering my mom. Lovely, kind, accepting, and still strong, bold, and unwavering in her faith. One of a kind. Irreplaceable. Forever and always, my Mom.

skirt!

I made a new one! It's a Cynthia Rowley pattern (very easy to follow, and good designs) made from a basic cotton print. And no elastic waist - I've moved into the land of zippers! And pockets too! I'd say this is my most proud project to date. My favourite part is the waistband and the tie front. Also, I got some new pinking shears for my birthday (thanks Beth!!), so there's no fraying on these seams :) Gotta go, or I'll be late for church in my new skirt!

makeover.

Love this before and after I saw on design*sponge! Apparently the paint was purchased for $1.00 in the "mis-tint" section at the paint store - I didn't know that existed!

Also...

I want to have a cute turquoise bench by the front door.

Dad's Day

If you were needing a unique way to wrap your Father's Day gift, look no further. I stumbled across this amazing idea on Paper Crave - and the instructions are there too! I already had the tie idea for my kids church craft this Sunday, but this just took it to another level.

garage sale-ing.

Yesterday began bright and early with one of my favourite things - deals. The little village of Elmira was having a community garage sale day, so of course I had to be there. And I'm so glad I was! Here's a look at the goods...

Shell Necklace - 50 cents.

5 pretty hair pins - 50 cents.

Awesome leather satchel - $5? $2? Nope, just 25 cents. You heard me.

Awesome 70s overnight bag - 50 cents. But by this point I was out of quarters, so I gave him $1.

After the garage sales, we headed to the St. Jacob's Farmer's Market and had Mahajeb, Hummus, and Tabouleh (Moroccan) for lunch, yummm. If I had a camera, I'd have pictures of that as well. Someday.

To end the morning right, I had to stop and pick up some flowers from a Mennonite stand on the side of the road. Nothing like the smell of freshly picked peonies to wake me up in the morning. Just 25 cents each.

I wish Community Garage sales happened every Saturday.

another reason to visit Chicago.

Anyone heard of Penelope's? I stumbled upon the link to the store's website - it's totally cute! Some things are pricy, but the sale stuff was reasonable, and still really fun. I'd already been thinking of a Chicago road trip sometime...

Here's some of my favourites:

How cute are these serving trays and lunch boxes??

first dress!

Hey followers! I finally have something worthy of an update. This is the first dress I've ever made, and I'm so happy with how it turned out. I got the fabric at Fabricland for 66% off - $7.00 total. I found the pattern for it at Value Village (uncut, with all the pieces!) for $0.99. I modified it a little bit, and it worked! You can't see in the picture, but it's just a basic sleeveless shape with an elastic waistband. I wore it to the Divine women's conference (imagine 800 women in one place!) for the dessert gala evening. So fun!

Also noteworthy: the jean jacket was from the Salvation Army ($6.99), the belt from Value Village ($0.99), and the shoes from Aldo Liquidation ($20). This just proves you don't have to spend a fortune pull a fun look together! (Less than $40 total)
